WASHINGTON – The gritty details of the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol Breach have once again come to light as Dale Huttle, a 73-year-old man from Crown Point, Indiana, faced justice for his role in the historic riot.
Huttle was sentenced to 30 months behind bars, followed by 24 months of supervised release, and ordered to pay $3,639 in restitution. The sentence came after Huttle pleaded guilty to assaulting a Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Officer with a dangerous weapon, causing serious bodily injury, on Dec. 8, 2023.
According to court documents, Huttle traveled from Indiana to the nation’s capital for the “Stop the Steal” rally and, along with his nephew Matthew Huttle, marched towards the Capitol carrying an upside-down American flag. The elder Huttle’s enthusiasm was fervent as he encouraged a ‘bum rush’ of the Capitol.
Once on restricted Capitol grounds, Dale Huttle engaged in a confrontation with police officers, jabbing a flagpole into their stomachs and causing them to fall. His actions resulted in injuries that led to a slipped disc for one officer.
The court records show a relentless attack by Huttle on the West Plaza, where he continued his confrontation with law enforcement. Despite being surrounded, Huttle remained at the front of the line, taunting officers and causing further chaos.
After the riot concluded, Huttle spoke to the media, describing the scene as “mayhem” and defending himself as a ‘ultimate patriot.’ His defiance was short-lived, however, as he now faces his sentence for his actions on that fateful day.
