Methamphetamine Dealer Sentenced to 90 Months in Prison
A methamphetamine dealer has been sentenced to over seven years in federal prison for his role in distributing the highly addictive drug in and around Sioux City, Iowa. Jason Wayne Persons, 42, of Quimby, Iowa, was sentenced to 90 months in prison after pleading guilty to distribution of a controlled substance.
Pursuant to a search warrant executed by Sioux City police officers on August 17, 2020, methamphetamine was recovered from Persons’ bedroom. In a subsequent police interview, he admitted to selling methamphetamine to support his addiction to the substance. This is not the first time Persons has been involved in methamphetamine-related crimes, as he was previously convicted in federal court in 2003 of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine.
Persons was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand. He must also serve a five-year term of supervised release after his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system, meaning Persons will serve his full sentence without the possibility of early release.
According to court documents, Persons distributed methamphetamine in Sioux City in August 2020. He was apprehended and subsequently interviewed by law enforcement, during which he confessed to his involvement in the methamphetamine trade. Persons was being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison to serve his sentence.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ron Timmons and investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force, a multi-agency task force based in Sioux City, Iowa, that consists of law enforcement personnel from various agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, Sioux City, Iowa, Police Department, and the Iowa National Guard.

This sentence sends a clear message that those involved in the methamphetamine trade will be held accountable for their actions. We will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle these organizations, and bring those responsible to justice.
