Jacksonville, Florida – The grim saga of William Thomas Hogan, 35, culminated in a federal prison sentence of eight years and one month for the receipt of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM).
Hogan’s downfall began when Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) initiated an investigation into reports of CSAM stored in a cloud account linked to his phone number. A federal search warrant was obtained, leading to the discovery of multiple files of CSAM.
On November 15, 2024, Hogan was confronted by an HSI agent and admitted to having CSAM on his cellphone, explaining, ‘I imagine there’s probably a bit.’ He also confessed to receiving such material through social media applications in group chats and direct messages.
Assistant Special Agent in Charge Tim Hemker of HSI Jacksonville emphasized the gravity of Hogan’s crime, stating, ‘Every click, every download of child sexual abuse material is a crime against a child.’
This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department initiative aimed at combating the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Investigated by HSI and the Northeast Florida INTERCEPT Task Force, it was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ashley Washington.
