Trillian Mitchell, Machine Gun Possession, Florida 2024

United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg revealed that Trillian Mitchell, a 19-year-old from Jacksonville, has pleaded guilty to the unlawful possession of a machine gun, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. A sentencing date for Mitchell remains undetermined.

Court documents detail how officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) conducted a traffic stop on January 7, 2024, near Golfair Blvd. and Myrtle Ave. During the stop, which was prompted by the smell of marijuana, officers discovered a Glock handgun beneath Mitchell’s seat. The firearm was loaded with 22 rounds and equipped with a ‘Glock-switch,’ a device designed to transform semi-automatic pistols into fully automatic machine guns.

JSO officers also seized controlled substances from both the vehicle and Mitchell himself. Further analysis by the FBI laboratory confirmed that the Glock pistol was indeed functional and fully automatic, with Mitchell’s DNA present on the firearm. The defendant is identified as a documented member of the Six Block gang in the Jacksonville area.

This case has been jointly investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the JSO, with prosecution handled by Assistant United States Attorney Kirwinn Mike. It falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence across all levels of law enforcement.

Launched on May 26, 2021, PSN strengthens community trust and legitimacy, supports preventive measures, sets strategic enforcement priorities, and measures outcomes to enhance neighborhood safety. This case underscores the ongoing commitment to tackle gang-related activities and weapons violations that imperil local communities.
