Lincoln Man Convicted for Receipt of Child Pornography
James Chase, a 53-year-old resident of Lincoln, Nebraska, was sentenced to 6 years in prison for his involvement in the receipt of child pornography. This case is a stark reminder of the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse that exists in our society.
Federal authorities announced that Chase was convicted of receiving child pornography in November 2018. The investigation began with a cyber tip from Kik indicating that Chase had uploaded an image of suspected child pornography. Homeland Security Investigations agents subsequently interviewed Chase at his home and discovered that he had been involved in child pornography groups on Kik.
During the investigation, Chase provided consent to search his electronic devices, including his tablet and phone. The examination of these devices revealed 20 images containing child pornography. A subsequent search warrant was executed on Chase’s home, resulting in the seizure of his laptop computer. A forensic examination of the laptop revealed an additional 6 images and 3 videos of child pornography.
Chase’s case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project brings together federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
As part of his sentence, Chase will serve 8 years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system, and Chase will have to serve the full 6 years in prison before being eligible for supervised release.
