Jamestown Man Charged with Child Pornography
A Jamestown man is facing serious charges after being indicted on child pornography charges. Matthew Bailer, 33, was charged with receipt and possession of child pornography, a crime that carries a minimum penalty of five years in prison, a maximum of 40 years, and a $250,000 fine.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth R. Moellering, the charges stem from a complaint filed in July 2018 by a parent who claimed that her minor children may have been sexually abused by Bailer. The parent stated that she was told by Bailer’s sister that a series of concerning pictures, sexual in nature, were delivered on a Nokia cellular telephone used by Bailer.
Bailer was arrested on a warrant out of Missouri related to a burglary case, during which investigators recovered several hundred images of child pornography involving sexually explicit conduct by prepubescent and pubescent children.
The indictment is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Gary Loeffert, and the Jamestown Police Department, under the direction of Chief Harry Snellings. Bailer was arraigned today before U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder and is being detained.
The fact that Bailer has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. Contact Barbara Burns at (716) 843-5817 for more information.
As this case continues to unfold, the community is left to wonder how such a heinous crime could have occurred. The investigation and prosecution of child pornography cases are crucial in preventing the exploitation and abuse of children.
The case is a stark reminder of the importance of vigilant reporting and the need for law enforcement to take swift action in protecting our children. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
