Grimy Times Exclusive: Tiptonville Man Sentenced for Attempted Enticement

A Tiptonville, Tennessee resident has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for attempting to engage in a sexual encounter with a minor. According to sources, Jerry Braddy, 45, was arrested on June 12, 2024, after he arrived at a designated location in Bloomington, Illinois to meet a child and their stepfather.

The incident began when Braddy initiated communication with an individual he believed to be the stepfather of a nine-year-old child via an online platform. Over the course of several days, Braddy agreed to meet the child and stepfather, with the intent of engaging in a sexual encounter with the minor.

A joint investigation by federal law enforcement agents and the McLean County Sheriff’s Office led to Braddy’s arrest. Braddy has been in the custody of the United States Marshals Service since his arrest.

Braddy was charged by criminal complaint in June 2024 and indicted five days later. He pleaded guilty in August 2024.

At the sentencing hearing, the government established that Braddy’s actions were in violation of federal law, which carries a minimum penalty of 10 years in prison. Braddy was sentenced to serve 10 years in federal prison, followed by a 5-year term of supervised release. He must also register as a sex offender upon his release.

The case against Braddy is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The initiative is led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa P. Ortiz represented the government in the prosecution. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Springfield Field Office, investigated the case.
