Theft of Firearms Rocks Fairmont Community

A shocking crime has shaken the quiet town of Fairmont, West Virginia, as Jesse Ross Duke, a 34-year-old local resident, was indicted for the theft of 13 firearms from a licensed firearms dealer in June 2021.

The indictment, announced by United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld, accuses Duke of stealing a collection of pistols, rifles, shotguns, and revolvers from the dealer in Marion County.

Duke’s alleged crimes carry severe consequences, with a possible sentence of up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence will be determined by the seriousness of the offenses and any prior criminal history.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah E. Wagner is leading the prosecution, while the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation.

As the case unfolds, the community remains on high alert, concerned about the potential dangers posed by these stolen firearms.

An indictment is merely an accusation, and Duke is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The case will now proceed to trial, where the evidence will be presented, and a verdict will be reached.
