SCRANTON, PA – The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has dropped a重磅 on Isaiah Moore-Brown, 28, of Jim Thorpe, charging him with crack cocaine trafficking and firearms offenses. The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury on April 25, 2017, alleges that Moore-Brown conspired to distribute and possess over 28 grams of cocaine base (crack) as well as cocaine between December 1, 2012, and January 11, 2017.
According to United States Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, the charges also include possession of a Springfield Arms .45, Ruger LC .380, and Smith and Wesson .9mm firearm in furtherance of his narcotics activities. Moore-Brown is additionally charged with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. The government seeks forfeiture of the firearms and related items.
This investigation was a collaborative effort between Homeland Security Investigations and the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, led by Assistant United States Attorney Phillip J. Caraballo.
The Violent Crime Reduction Partnership (“VCRP”) initiative has played a significant role in this case, as it is part of the district-wide effort to combat violent crime in Pennsylvania’s Middle District. The VCRP brings together federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies with the shared goal of apprehending and prosecuting those who commit violent crimes involving firearms.
Despite the serious nature of the charges, Moore-Brown is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. Sentencing will be determined by the Judge after considering applicable federal laws and guidelines, which could carry life imprisonment for certain offenses.
The maximum penalties under federal law include a five-year mandatory minimum sentence for both the drug trafficking conspiracy charge and the firearms offense. The actual sentence imposed may vary significantly based on various factors including the specifics of the case, the defendant’s history, and public safety considerations.
