Manhattan Security Guard Sentenced for Sexual Assault
A former armed security guard at the Jacob K. Javits Federal Office Building in Manhattan has been sentenced to five years in prison for sexually assaulting an asylum seeker, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Jimmy Solano-Arias, 45, of the Bronx, was found guilty of lying to federal law enforcement agents after the assault on May 4, 2023. The Victim, who was at the federal building to submit an asylum application, was led to a locked office by Solano-Arias, who then demanded that the Victim perform oral sex.
When the Victim refused, Solano-Arias reached for a company-issued firearm, causing the Victim to perform the act to avoid harm. The Victim immediately reported the assault to law enforcement after leaving the office.
Solano-Arias was arrested after lying to federal agents about the assault, initially claiming that no sexual act had occurred and later stating that it was consensual.
‘Jimmy Solano-Arias used his position as an armed security officer at a federal building to sexually assault a vulnerable asylum seeker,’ said U.S. Attorney Damian Williams. ‘In so doing, Solano-Arias abused a person he was charged with protecting, and then lied to cover up his crime.’
In addition to the prison term, Solano-Arias was sentenced to three years of supervised release. The prosecution was handled by the Office’s Civil Rights Unit in the Criminal Division, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Elizabeth Espinosa and Mitzi Steiner in charge of the case.
The FBI was praised for its outstanding investigative work in the case.
