Johnstown, Pa. – The grim streets of Johnstown witnessed another disturbing chapter in the war on drugs today as Desalynn L. Coleman, 32, was indicted by a federal grand jury for distributing heroin.
Coleman, a resident of Johnstown, stands accused of distributing less than 100 grams of the deadly substance on October 30, 2012. The gravity of her actions is not lost on local law enforcement, as U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton announced the charges.
This charge carries a severe penalty; if found guilty, Coleman could face up to 20 years in prison, a fine of $1,000,000, or both. The sentence will be determined by the seriousness of the offense and any prior criminal history.
The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie L. Haines, who vowed to pursue justice on behalf of the government.
The investigation that led to this indictment was a collaborative effort between the Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cambria County Drug Task Force.
As with any criminal charge, an indictment is merely an accusation. Coleman is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
