Bossier City Man Sentenced for Re-entry into the U.S.
In a major blow to immigration violators, Jose Angel Lopez Valdivierzo, a 36-year-old Honduran citizen living in Bossier City, Louisiana, has been sentenced to federal prison for illegal re-entry by a removed alien.
United States District Judge Donald E. Walter handed down the sentence of 15 months in prison after Valdivierzo was stopped by Bossier City Police officers for a traffic violation on October 26, 2020. Upon further inspection, officers discovered that he was in possession of a controlled substance.
This is not Valdivierzo’s first rodeo with the law. He has been removed from the United States on a staggering 10 prior occasions. The dates of these removals are: June 11, 2008; August 15, 2008; October 31, 2008; January 29, 2009; March 18, 2011; October 20, 2011; January 13, 2014; April 25, 2014; February 20, 2015; and March 22, 2017.
Furthermore, Valdivierzo has a history of federal convictions. He was previously convicted of improper entry by an alien in 2011 and illegal re-entry by a removed alien in 2013 and 2016. Additionally, he has prior misdemeanor convictions in Texas for theft in 2013 and assault causing bodily injury to a family member in 2015.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Bossier City Police Department conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica D. Cassidy prosecuted the case.
The sentencing of Jose Angel Lopez Valdivierzo is a strong reminder that immigration violators will be held accountable for their actions. The citizens of Bossier City and the surrounding areas can rest a little easier knowing that those who break the law will face the consequences.
As a city, we must continue to work together to keep our community safe and secure. We will not tolerate those who seek to exploit our system and put our citizens at risk.
