Juan Rodriguez-Acevedo, Illegal Reentry, Florida 2024

Jacksonville, Florida – A Mexican national received a harsh sentence after attempting to reenter the US despite a previous conviction and deportation.

Juan Rodriguez-Acevedo, 57, of Mexico, was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for illegal reentry after removal following a conviction for committing an aggravated felony. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Wendy Berger.

Rodriguez-Acevedo entered a guilty plea in June 2024, admitting to unlawful reentry into the country. According to court documents, the defendant is a native and citizen of Mexico, with a prior conviction in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida for possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine in 2007.

Rodriguez-Acevedo received a permanent ban from the United States and was deported to Mexico in 2018 after his release from federal prison. However, he attempted to reenter the country illegally in 2019 and was encountered by law enforcement in Texas. He was again deported to Mexico in 2021 after his release from federal prison.

In March 2024, law enforcement officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Rodriguez-Acevedo during enforcement activities in Lake City. The defendant admitted to law enforcement that he had again unlawfully reentered the United States in June 2023.

The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration And Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement And Removal Operations (ERO) and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David B. Mesrobian. Rodriguez-Acevedo’s sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of attempting to reenter the US despite a previous conviction and deportation.
