Crime Shocks Rosebud Community: Thief Sentenced for Breaking into Local Golf Course
A brazen break-in at the Prairie Hills Square golf course has left the community reeling. According to authorities, Justin Lee Gabriel, a 21-year-old Rosebud man, broke into the business on September 6, 2012, and made off with U.S. currency.
Gabriel was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 11, 2012 and pled guilty to the charge on February 6, 2013. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim Maher and investigated by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services.
On June 24, 2013, U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange handed down the sentence. Gabriel was scheduled to serve 21 months in custody, followed by 2 years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $2,600 in restitution and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Gabriel’s actions have left the community feeling shaken. ‘This sentence sends a strong message that breaking into local businesses will not be tolerated,’ said a spokesperson for the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services.
Gabriel was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals following the sentencing. The case serves as a reminder that the community will work together to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.
