David L. Crisp, Jr., Crack Cocaine Trafficking, Illinois 2023

Kankakee Prison

Urbana, Ill. – A Kankakee man is heading to federal prison for 20 years after being caught with a large stash of crack cocaine. David L. Crisp, Jr., 35, was sentenced to 240 months in the federal Bureau of Prisons for possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine.

Crisp, who was arrested by agents of the Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group (KAMEG) on August 23, 2013, was found to have 41.1 grams of crack cocaine packed and intended for further distribution at his residence in the 1100 block of S. East Avenue in Kankakee.

The charges against Crisp resulted from an investigation conducted by KAMEG and the Illinois State Police, with assistance from the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ronda H. Coleman.

Crisp’s history with the law is long, dating back to 1999 when he was convicted in Kankakee County Circuit Court for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a church. He was sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. In 2003, Crisp was sentenced to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after being convicted of manufacture/delivery of 1-15 grams of cocaine.

Crisp’s prior felony drug convictions made him subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years to life in prison. However, he pled guilty on January 9, 2014, to knowingly possessing 28 grams or more of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute it, which led to his current sentence.

Crisp will serve eight years of supervised release upon his release from prison. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Michael P. McCuskey.
