A Kentucky auto parts manufacturer is facing the consequences of its toxic secret. GOTEC Plus Sun, LLC, a Delaware company, pleaded guilty to storing hazardous waste without a permit at its Williamstown facility. The hazardous waste, including spent solvents, had been accumulating since 2022.
According to court documents, a June 2024 inspection by the Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection uncovered 249 55-gallon drums of hazardous waste and approximately 27 cubic yards of waste stored in cardboard, wooden crates, and yellow totes.
The company admitted it stopped properly disposing of the hazardous waste due to staffing issues and decreased revenue during the COVID shutdown.
Natalie Fehse, the former General Manager of the GOTEC facility, was sentenced to five years of probation, including 10 months of home confinement, and a $5,000 fine.
GOTEC was sentenced to pay a $275,000 fine and serve a one-year term of probation.
