Kentucky Man Sentenced for 18 Years for Meth Possession
A Kentucky man has been sentenced to 226 months in prison and five years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Mitchell Glenn Bell, 45, of Monticello, Kentucky, was given the hefty sentence by Chief U.S. District Judge Martin Reidinger.
According to court documents, on November 7, 2018, a deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the motorcycle Bell was riding following a traffic violation. Bell sped away, and law enforcement located the abandoned motorcycle shortly thereafter. Deputies then searched for Bell in the nearby woods, where they recovered his backpack containing more than five kilograms of methamphetamine, digital scales, other drug paraphernalia, ammunition, over $11,500 in cash, and multiple fake driver’s licenses.
Bell pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine on January 11, 2021. He is currently in federal custody and will be transferred to the custody of the federal Bureau of Prisons upon designation of a federal facility.
Acting U.S. Attorney William T. Stetzer thanked the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Jackson County Sheriff’s office for their investigation, along with Assistant U.S. Attorney John Pritchard, who prosecuted the case.
The sentencing comes as a result of a joint investigation by the DEA and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. The case serves as a reminder of the severity of methamphetamine trafficking and the consequences that come with it.
Bell will serve 226 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. The case highlights the importance of law enforcement working together to combat the opioid and methamphetamine crises affecting our communities.
