King Accused of Firearms Law Violation

A local man is facing federal charges after allegedly violating federal firearms laws in Duquesne, Pennsylvania. Keyjuan King, 22, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a single charge of violating federal firearms laws, according to Acting United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman.

The indictment alleges that King, a convicted felon, was in possession of a firearm and ammunition, which is a violation of federal law. Detectives observed King walking hastily through a parking lot and approaching an occupied vehicle when they spotted a firearm visible in the front pocket of his shorts. Fearing for the safety of the individuals in the vehicle, detectives approached King and asked him to show his hands. When King noticed the detectives, he turned and fled on foot, removing the firearm from his shorts as he ran.

King was eventually taken into custody after stumbling and falling. A K9 search of the area revealed a fully loaded firearm in the hillside, woodline area where King had been when he was out of the detectives’ sight. As a convicted felon, King is prohibited from possessing firearms under federal law.

King is facing a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. The actual sentence will be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, taking into account the seriousness of the offense and King’s prior criminal history. King was previously released to home detention with location monitoring in 2021.

The Allegheny County Police Department conducted the investigation, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Ira M. Karoll is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.

An indictment is an accusation, and King is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. The case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of violating federal firearms laws.
