Jerone Tate, a 38-year-old from Westlake, Ohio, led a large-scale drug trafficking operation that distributed deadly controlled substances throughout Northeast Ohio. The operation, which was investigated by federal agents starting in 2021, involved the distribution of large quantities of cocaine and fentanyl. Tate’s organization was responsible for peddling these dangerous drugs, putting countless lives at risk. The investigation ultimately led to Tate’s downfall, and he pleaded guilty in July 2025 to various offenses, including conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.
During the investigation, federal agents executed multiple search warrants and seized significant quantities of drugs, including approximately 1,902 grams of cocaine, 494.2 grams of fentanyl, and 19 kilograms of marijuana. They also found $63,111 in cash, a drug press, cellphones, drug ledgers, and other drug paraphernalia. The scope of the operation was vast, with Tate’s organization distributing drugs throughout Northeast Ohio, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
Tate’s sentence of 292 months in prison, handed down by U.S. District Judge John R. Adams, reflects the severity of his crimes. He will also serve five years of supervised release after his imprisonment. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Payum Doroodian, and the investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
Co-conspirator Terrill Colbert, 40, of Cleveland, previously pleaded guilty to his role in the DTO and is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence. The sentences handed down in this case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to combating drug trafficking and holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
