Guthrie Couple Sentenced to Prison for Wire Fraud Scheme
In a federal sentencing hearing on November 1, 2024, Kyler Womack, 34, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, was sentenced to serve 21 months in federal prison for conspiring to commit wire fraud.
Womack’s co-defendant, Megan McKinley, 34, had previously been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison on August 27, 2024, for her role in the scheme.
According to court records, Womack and McKinley conspired to purchase three vehicles using stolen identities in September 2023. The couple’s attempted purchase of a fourth vehicle was unsuccessful, leading to their arrests.
Womack and McKinley pleaded guilty to Count 1 of the indictment, which charged them with conspiring to commit wire fraud by fraudulently purchasing vehicles with stolen means of identification.
The Norman Police Department investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney D.H. Dilbeck prosecuted the case.
U.S. District Judge Patrick R. Wyrick noted that Womack and McKinley had acquired the personal information of hundreds of individuals, and the great harm they could have done if not caught quickly.
Womack will also serve two years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of identity theft and the consequences of such crimes.
