Marcelle Davis, 22, of La Crosse, Wisconsin, has been sentenced to five years in prison for being a felon in possession of firearms. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley after Davis pleaded guilty on October 7, 2022.
La Crosse police responded to a domestic dispute on March 8, 2022, where they recovered a Ruger-57 firearm from the victim. The victim reported that Davis had hit her with a handgun and threatened to kill her. Officers found additional firearms in the apartment, including a .22 caliber handgun and a .357 revolver.
Davis was arrested following a car chase where he discarded a 9mm handgun out of the window. His DNA was later linked to the guns recovered from both the victim and the apartment.
The defendant’s previous conviction for false imprisonment on probation only added to his sentencing, with Judge Conley highlighting Davis’s violent history against women as a factor in the significant sentence.
This case was investigated by the La Crosse Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Corey Stephan prosecuted the case, which is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, an initiative to reduce gun crime and violent crimes.
The PSN approach emphasizes collaboration between state and federal prosecutors and law enforcement, aiming to tackle gun-related violence and other offenses effectively.
