BUFFALO, N.Y. — In a resounding victory for child safety, Maxwell H. Gawley, 34, of Lackawanna, NY, has been handed a 60-year prison sentence by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. The sentence is the culmination of a harrowing case that involved Gawley’s distribution of child pornography and online sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Evan K. Glaberson, Gawley initiated sexually explicit conversations with a 14-year-old boy via Snapchat in August 2022. The predator asked the boy for nude photos and discussed engaging in sexual contact. In a chilling display of his intent, Gawley threatened, “I might even have to make a road trip … [come] see you if we were dating.”
In September 2022, Gawley struck again, this time sharing images and videos of child pornography over Snapchat with another individual. The investigation into these heinous acts was led by Homeland Security Investigations, New York State Police, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo emphasized the gravity of Gawley’s crimes, stating that such actions have a devastating impact on victims and communities alike. The sentence imposed sends a clear message that sexual exploitation of minors will not be tolerated in our society.
The sentencing judge, John L. Sinatra, Jr., acknowledged the severity of Gawley’s offenses and emphasized the need for justice to be served. This sentence is a testament to the relentless pursuit of justice by law enforcement and legal professionals.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by online predators and the importance of vigilance in protecting our children. The community owes a debt of gratitude to those who worked tirelessly to bring Gawley to justice and ensure his removal from society.
