Las Cruces Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Drug Trafficking Charges
A Las Cruces man has pleaded guilty to federal drug trafficking charges, admitting to possessing a large quantity of methamphetamine and a handgun.
Robert J. Lambe, 37, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, entered his guilty plea in federal court on Wednesday to methamphetamine trafficking and firearms charges. Lambe was arrested in 2014 on an indictment charging him with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime on June 8, 2014.
According to court documents, Lambe admitted to possessing 25 grams of pure methamphetamine and a handgun on the day of his arrest. He also admitted to being an unlawful drug user and addicted to a controlled substance at the time, making him prohibited from possessing a firearm.
The case was investigated by the Las Cruces office of the FBI and the Las Cruces Police Department. The prosecution is being led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Maria Y. Armijo of the U.S. Attorney’s Las Cruces Branch Office.
Lambe faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison followed by not less than three years of supervised release. He remains in custody pending a sentencing hearing, which has yet to be scheduled.
The guilty plea marks a significant blow to the drug trafficking trade in Las Cruces and surrounding areas. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has been working tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking organizations in the region, and this case is a testament to their efforts.
The Las Cruces community can rest a little easier knowing that a major player in the local drug trade has been brought to justice. However, it’s clear that there’s still much work to be done to rid the streets of these destructive substances and the violence that comes with them.
Lambe’s sentencing hearing is expected to be a significant event, with many in the community eager to see justice served. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has promised to continue their efforts to combat drug trafficking and keep the community safe.
