MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Lebron Earl Samuels, 41, of Oklahoma City, is headed to federal prison for six years after pleading guilty to illegally possessing a firearm. Samuels was sentenced to 72 months in federal custody on Tuesday, a penalty handed down by Chief Judge Ronald A. White of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The case unfolded after a frantic high-speed pursuit on July 12, 2022. Samuels attempted to flee law enforcement while dodging an outstanding warrant. When officers finally brought the chase to a halt, they discovered Samuels clutching a 9mm pistol and a loaded extended magazine. The discovery was particularly damning because of Samuels’ prior criminal history.

Investigators revealed Samuels had previously been convicted of a crime carrying a potential sentence exceeding one year – a disqualifier for legal firearm ownership under federal law. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) spearheaded the investigation, working alongside the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, the Oklahoma City Police Department, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

The collaborative effort led to Samuels’ guilty plea on September 7, 2023. Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Satter prosecuted the case, arguing for a substantial sentence given the circumstances. The investigation highlighted the ongoing threat posed by convicted felons illegally armed, a concern federal agencies are increasingly focused on.

Following the sentencing hearing, Samuels was immediately remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal Service. He will now begin serving his 72-month sentence in a federal correctional facility. The case serves as a stark warning: possessing a firearm while prohibited by federal law carries severe consequences.
