CLEVELAND – The grimy streets of Cleveland have another criminal behind bars after Carl P. Lewis, 28, was sentenced to a decade in the slammer for robbing a federal informant.
Lewis, a repeat offender with a history of robbery, pleaded guilty to his crimes and now faces 120 months (10 years) in prison. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Pamela A. Barker following Lewis’s May plea.
According to court documents, the heist took place last October when the unsuspecting informant was lured into a meeting about firearm sales. Lewis, the greedy predator, demanded $2,500 for the guns but grew violent upon seeing the money exchange hands. The struggle turned deadly as a gun was pointed at the informant.
“Lewis’s actions are an affront to the justice system and the safety of those who work with federal agencies,” said Assistant United States Attorney Kelly L. Galvin in the wake of the sentencing.
The ATF, known for their no-nonsense approach to gun crime, investigated the case and brought it to justice. Lewis was later found with a rifle and two pistols during his arrest.
After serving his decade-long sentence, Lewis will be under five years of supervised release. But that’s not all he has to worry about; his past conviction for robbery adds up to a life of paying for his choices. The justice system has spoken, and Carl P. Lewis is set for a long stretch in the clink.
