Liquid Meth Smuggler Gets 12 Years in Kansas
A Mexican man has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for his role in smuggling over 1,000 pounds of liquid methamphetamine into Kansas City, Kan., U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister said.
Fernando Chavez-Rodriguez, 43, a citizen of Mexico, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He was arrested on January 13, 2017, after federal agents watched him and others unload liquid methamphetamine from a fuel tank on a semi-truck into five-gallon buckets at a business in Kansas City, Kan.
The agents then observed the buckets being loaded into a white Dodge Caravan. Chavez-Rodriguez was taken into custody by federal agents, marking a significant blow to the liquid methamphetamine trade in the region.
U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister commended the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Kansas City DEA Special Response Team, the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department and Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Hough for their tireless work on the case.
