Gun Crime Lands Waterloo Man 9 Year Prison Sentence
Lloyd James Allen III, a 29-year-old Waterloo man, was sentenced to 114 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The conviction stems from an incident on February 7, 2021, when Allen knowingly possessed a pistol despite having been convicted of three crimes punishable by more than one year of imprisonment.
According to court documents, Allen’s guilty plea was entered on January 6, 2022. At the sentencing hearing, evidence was presented showing Allen possessed firearms on two other occasions in 2020 and 2021.
Allen’s sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids. In addition to the prison term, Allen must serve a three-year term of supervised release after his release from prison. It’s worth noting that there is no parole in the federal system.
The case against Allen was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime. PSN is an evidence-based program that brings together a broad spectrum of stakeholders to identify and address the most pressing violent crime problems in the community.
Assisting in the prosecution of Allen’s case were Assistant United States Attorney Ashley Corkery, the Waterloo Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
