New Orleans, Louisiana – CESAR A. LOBO-RAMOS, 38, a Honduran national, has been locked away for 24 months after his conviction for illegal re-entry into the United States, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Brandon S. Long, reflects the harsh consequences of repeated transgressions against our immigration laws.
LOBO-RAMOS had previously been deported on April 10, 2018, but he managed to slip back into the country and was apprehended once more. His latest run-in with law enforcement came on November 2, 2023, when he was taken into custody by the Kenner Police Department for resisting arrest and obstruction of police.
This time, however, LOBO-RAMOS faced a significantly enhanced sentence due to a sexual battery conviction from Jefferson Parish in 2010. The previous felony conviction bumped his statutory maximum sentence up to 20 years. Despite this, he was sentenced to serve just under two years for the illegal re-entry charge.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson extended praise to the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) and the Kenner Police Department for their diligent work in bringing LOBO-RAMOS to justice. Assistant United States Attorney Carter K.D. Guice, Jr., of the General Crimes Unit, led the prosecution.
The sentence sent a clear message that America’s borders are not to be crossed with such ease, especially by those with previous convictions that warrant enhanced penalties. The grim reality of LOBO-RAMOS’ case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who flout immigration laws and commit serious crimes in our country.
Cesar A. Lobo-Ramos will serve his time behind bars, paying for his illegal actions and the safety risk he posed to the community. His sentence is a testament to the justice system’s commitment to enforcing the law and protecting the American public.
