Local Man Charged with Child Sex Exploitation

SYRACUSE, NEW YORK – A Delaware County man has been charged with sexually exploiting a child, according to a federal indictment.

Jeremie Hoyt, 41, of Davenport, New York, appeared in federal court yesterday on charges that he produced and distributed a sexually explicit photograph and video of a 14-year-old child.

The indictment alleges that in November 2020, Hoyt produced the explicit content and distributed it over the internet to other users on a messaging application.

Hoyt was ordered detained pending trial by United States Magistrate Judge Miroslav Lovric. The charges in the indictment are merely accusations, and Hoyt is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

If convicted, Hoyt faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 15 years and a maximum term of imprisonment of 30 years, a maximum fine of $250,000, and a term of supervised release of between 5 years and life. Hoyt would also be required to register as a sex offender.

The case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office and the New York State Police. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey J. L. Brown as part of Project Safe Childhood.

Launched in May 2006, Project Safe Childhood is a national initiative led by United States Attorney’s offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section. The program aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
