LUBBOCK, Texas — A federal jury in Lubbock has convicted Tristan Rene Langston, 37, for issuing online threats to kill United States Secret Service agents and their families. Acting United States Attorney Nancy E. Larson announced the verdict.
Langston, charged with transmitting threats in interstate commerce and threatening a federal law enforcement officer, was found guilty following a four-day trial on Thursday, August 7, 2025. The charges stemmed from threats made by Langston in February 2025.
During the trial, evidence showed that Langston posted a message on X.com (formerly Twitter) on February 21, 2025, where he criticized two Secret Service agents and declared his intent to harm them and their families. The case proved that Langston’s statements were not mere political rhetoric but genuine threats.
Langston’s anger against the agents stemmed from a previous investigation in 2023. He targeted one of the agents and his family through online posts, videos, and notes on his cellphone over several years. The evidence indicated that Langston was aware that the agents would interpret his threat as retaliation for their investigation.
Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy E. Larson emphasized that targeting federal agents and their families with threats of violence is a federal crime not protected by free speech. She praised the jury’s decision in holding Langston accountable for his actions.
The Deputy Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service Dallas Field Office, Christina Foley, commended the jury for finding Langston guilty and highlighted the organization’s commitment to protecting those who serve. Langston faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on November 6, 2025.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Secret Service, and the prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ann Howey and Sean Long of the Lubbock Division.
