Luis Fernando Enciso-Ulloa, a 58-year-old Arizona man, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for one count of conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute marijuana, according to officials.
On Friday morning, United States Chief District Judge Michael J. Reagan handed down the sentence to Enciso-Ulloa, who was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release, pay a $300 fine, and a $100 special assessment fee.
As reported in open court at the sentencing and plea hearings, Enciso-Ulloa packaged and shipped four packages of marijuana weighing 22 pounds each from Nogales, Arizona to Belleville, Illinois, and agreed to help find a buyer for approximately 13 pounds of marijuana in 2014 and 2015.
Enciso-Ulloa was charged in February 2016 and pled guilty in January 2017. This was Enciso-Ulloa’s seventh drug conviction.
In sentencing Enciso-Ulloa to 18 months of imprisonment, 3 years of supervised release, a $300 fine and a $100 special assessment fee, Chief Judge Reagan indicated that this sentence punishes Enciso-Ulloa, promotes respect for the law and serves to deter the public and Enciso-Ulloa from committing drug crimes.
The evidence in support of this prosecution was obtained in an investigation conducted under the auspices of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF).
The OCDEFT initiative is designed to bring federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and resources together to identify, target and dismantle large national and international drug trafficking organizations.
Agencies participating in this case include the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigations, the Illinois State Police, and Fontana, California Police Department.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Monica A. Stump.
