LUIS FERNANDO MARTINEZ, a 40-year-old Honduran national, has been accused of committing a serious crime in the United States.
MARTINEZ, a citizen of Honduras, was found in the US after having been officially deported and removed on or about February 1, 2013. This raises serious questions about the effectiveness of the US deportation system.
According to the Bill of Information, MARTINEZ was discovered in the US on or about March 4, 2015. The revelation has sparked concerns about national security and public safety.
As a result of his actions, MARTINEZ faces a maximum term of imprisonment of two years, a fine of $250,000, one year supervised release after imprisonment, and a $100 special assessment. U.S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan has set sentencing for June 17, 2015.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Border Patrol in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Irene González is in charge of the prosecution.
The case against MARTINEZ serves as a reminder of the ongoing issue of illegal re-entry into the US. It highlights the need for effective border control and immigration reform.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office has vowed to continue to pursue those who attempt to re-enter the country illegally. The community can expect to see more cases like this one in the future.
