Grimy Times Exclusive: Pierre, SD – In a grim reminder of the consequences of failing to comply with sex offender registry requirements, 41-year-old Archie Mack was sentenced to federal prison for not registering as a sex offender. United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced that U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte imposed a three-month sentence on Mack, who will also serve five years of supervised release following his prison term. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Mack’s legal troubles began in January 2025 when he was indicted by a federal grand jury for failing to register as a sex offender. He pleaded guilty on June 4, 2025, after being convicted of Sexual Abuse of a Minor back in December 2005. As per the conviction, Mack is legally required to update his registration within three business days of any change in employment, student status, or relocation.
In August 2024, Mack updated his registration to show he was living in Pierre, but when he moved to a new residence in September 2024, he failed to update his information. This oversight led to his arrest on November 19, 2024. The swift action by law enforcement underscores the importance of compliance with sex offender registry laws.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the DOJ’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Prosecution Task Force work tirelessly to identify and rescue victims while holding predators accountable.
The investigation into Mack’s case was a collaborative effort between the U.S. Marshal’s Service and the Pierre Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson prosecuted the case, ensuring justice for the community and emphasizing the severity of violating sex offender registration requirements.
Mack has been immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence, demonstrating the federal government’s commitment to enforcing laws that protect children from predators like Mack.
