Man Admits to Possession of Firearm in Furtherance of Drug Crime
A Randolph County man has admitted to possessing a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, according to court documents.
Joshua Derek Raines, 37, of Elkins, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to one count of Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Crime in a U.S. District Court.
The crime took place in August 2019, when Raines was found to be in possession of a .40 caliber pistol during a drug trafficking offense.
Raines faces at least five years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000 as a result of his plea. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen D. Warner is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Mountain Region Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force investigated the crime.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi presided over the case, accepting Raines’ guilty plea.
