GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE — In a shocking act of violence at Washington, D.C.’s Navy Yard-Ballpark Metro Station, Erik Schleehauf, 43, has been indicted for the heinous attack on a Metro Transit Police (MTPD) Sergeant. The incident, which occurred on April 15, 2025, saw Schleehauf repeatedly stabbing the officer in the face.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Chief Michael Anzallo of the MTPD announced the charges against Schleehauf, who is now facing felony counts including assault of a police officer while armed, assault with a deadly weapon, and assault with significant bodily injury. The trial is set to begin on July 22, 2025.
According to evidence presented by the government, the April afternoon saw Schleehauf evade his fare at the over-the-fare machine gate and attempt to flee the station. Following him, the MTPD Sergeant used OC spray when Schleehauf refused to provide identification. This led to a confrontation during which Schleehauf pulled out a sharpened tool and launched a brutal assault on the officer.
The attack left the MTPD Sergeant with non-life-threatening injuries but required immediate hospitalization. The Metro Transit Police Department is leading the investigation, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Nickolas Reck is prosecuting the case. It’s important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
As this incident highlights the dangers faced by transit police officers, it serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance on public transport systems. Schleehauf’s case will undoubtedly attract intense media scrutiny and public interest in the coming weeks.
