Alvaro Mandujano-Rodriguez, Firearms Possession, Kentucky 2025

LOUISVILLE, KY – A Mexican national is off the streets of Louisville after receiving a 2 year and 2 month federal prison sentence for illegally re-entering the United States and possessing a cache of firearms. Alvaro Mandujano-Rodriguez, 32, was sentenced July 31, 2025, following a joint investigation by multiple federal and local agencies.

According to court documents, Mandujano-Rodriguez was found to be unlawfully present in the United States after being previously deported on November 29, 2013. The bust, occurring on or about October 7, 2023, uncovered Mandujano-Rodriguez in possession of an AR-15 rifle (make and model unknown), a MAG Tactical Systems MG-G4, multi-caliber rifle, and accompanying ammunition. As an alien illegally present in the US, he was legally prohibited from owning firearms.

“Thanks to the strong work of this federal-local partnership, another dangerous illegal immigrant has been removed from the streets of Louisville,” stated U.S. Attorney Kyle G. Bumgarner of the Western District of Kentucky. The case was a collaborative effort involving Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Nashville, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Chicago, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Louisville Field Division, and the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD).

This conviction isn’t an isolated incident, but part of the larger “Operation Take Back America,” a nationwide Department of Justice initiative designed to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and safeguard communities. The operation streamlines resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Furthermore, the case falls under the Prohibited Firearm Possessor Initiative (PFP), a cooperative between law enforcement and prosecutors aimed at reducing violent crime and firearm offenses. Louisville Metro launched a targeted gun crime reduction initiative in January 2024, focusing on illegal firearm possession, with PFP partners including LMPD, ATF, and various local and federal prosecutor offices.

Mandujano-Rodriguez will serve his full sentence, as there is no parole in the federal system. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mac Shannon prosecuted the case. The investigation highlights the ongoing struggle to stem the flow of illegal weapons into the hands of those prohibited from possessing them, and the dedication of agencies to keep Louisville streets safe – or, at least, a little less dangerous.
