Manuel Ivan Reina-Ruiz, 62 Kilograms of Methamphetamine Seized, Texas 2016
In a devastating blow to the scourge of narcotics, Manuel Ivan Reina-Ruiz, a Mexican national, has been sentenced to 78 months imprisonment for importing methamphetamine into the United States from Mexico.
On January 16, 2016, Reina-Ruiz knowingly drove a vehicle from Mexico into the United States through the Progreso port of entry, concealing a staggering 62 kilograms of the highly addictive substance within the quarter panels and all four tires of the vehicle.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers, in a remarkable display of vigilance, discovered the hidden stash upon inspection, leading to the seizure of numerous bricks of methamphetamine.
Reina-Ruiz, who has been in custody without bond since his arrest in January 2016, will remain behind bars pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.
The case was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations and CBP. Assistant U.S. Attorney Linda Requénez prosecuted the case.
Reina-Ruiz’s actions highlight the alarming trend of methamphetamine trafficking across the U.S.-Mexico border, underscoring the need for continued vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies.
The sentencing of Reina-Ruiz serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in such illicit activities, and the unwavering commitment of authorities to dismantle the networks responsible for the scourge of narcotics.
