Local Man Arrested for Possession of Child Sex Abuse Material

A disturbing case has come to light in Marion County, Florida, with the arrest of Matthew Allen Gahan, a 24-year-old man from Summerfield. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Gahan has been charged with one count of possession of child sex abuse material.

On or about September 13, 2023, Gahan was found to be in possession of multiple videos portraying the sexual abuse of young boys. Furthermore, an investigation revealed that Gahan used the dark web to distribute and receive child sex abuse materials.

The arrest was made possible by the tireless efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Hannah Nowalk.

Matthew Allen Gahan, if convicted, faces up to 20 years in federal prison for his alleged crimes.

The case has been brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS). This initiative aims to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Matthew Allen Gahan is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The investigation into this case highlights the importance of protecting our children from the scourge of child sex abuse material.
