GRIM NEWS: Richard J. Miezin, 47, of Medina, Ohio, faces a heavy charge sheet for child porn and deceptive actions against the FBI.
The grim revelation came from United States Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach and FBI Special Agent Stephen D. Anthony, who reported that Miezin was arrested this afternoon for distributing explicit images of minors online between April 2010 and February 2011.
But it gets worse. The indictment also accuses Miezin of willfully making false statements to the FBI during their investigation.
This case is a joint effort by the Medina County Sheriff’s Office and the Akron Office of the FBI’s Crimes Against Children Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Carol M. Skutnik is handling the prosecution.
Targeting child predators is now a top priority for this task force, which vows to use every resource to protect local kids. It’s clear that the fight against online exploitation is escalating with more cases like Miezin’s being identified than ever before.
Conviction in this case will be meted out according to federal guidelines, based on unique factors such as the defendant’s prior record and role in the crime. The court will ensure that sentences do not exceed the legal maximums.
Remember, an indictment is just a charge, and Miezin is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
