Heroin Distribution Ring Smashed in PA
In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, a Detroit woman has pleaded guilty to her involvement in a heroin distribution scheme that spread across the state of Pennsylvania.
Megan Holton, 27, of Detroit, Michigan, was found guilty of violating federal narcotics laws in a Johnstown, Pennsylvania court.
According to court records, from the spring of 2011 to May 15, 2012, Holton conspired with co-defendants to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin.
The Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police and the Indiana Police Department led the investigation that led to Holton’s prosecution.
Other agencies participating in this investigation included the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, the Cambria County Drug Task Force, the Cambria County Sheriff’s Department, the Cambria County District Attorney’s Office, the Indiana County Drug Task Force, and the Indiana County District Attorney’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie L. Haines is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
Judge Kim R. Gibson scheduled sentencing for Oct. 16, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of $1,000,000, or both.
Holton’s guilty plea comes as a significant blow to those involved in the heroin distribution scheme, and authorities are hailing it as a major victory in the ongoing fight against narcotics trafficking in the region.
