In a massive blow to methamphetamine traffickers, federal agents seized over 280 pounds of the deadly drug, along with more than four pounds of fentanyl, in a series of operations across metro Atlanta. The busts, which took place on July 21 and 22, 2026, also netted two illegally possessed firearms and led to the arrest of three men, including an illegal alien from Mexico and a convicted felon. The operations were the result of a joint effort by the DEA and other law enforcement agencies.
According to court documents, Silvano Mendoza-Valencia, the alleged illegal alien, was arrested on July 21, 2026, after he sold approximately two pounds of methamphetamine to a drug customer in Morrow, Georgia. A search of his residence turned up a staggering 85 pounds of methamphetamine and two pounds of fentanyl. The next day, Christian Garcia-Esparza was stopped by DEA agents in Austell, Georgia, after he allegedly sold more than six pounds of methamphetamine to a drug customer.
The DEA’s Atlanta Field Division, led by Special Agent in Charge Jae W. Chung, worked tirelessly to dismantle the operations of these alleged drug traffickers. U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg vowed to prosecute the defendants to the fullest extent of the law, stating that his office is committed to protecting communities from the dangers of illicit drugs.
The seizure of over 280 pounds of methamphetamine and more than four pounds of fentanyl is a significant victory in the war on drugs. The DEA and other law enforcement agencies will continue to work together to disrupt the supply chain of these deadly drugs and bring those responsible to justice.
