A former Chicago suburb resident is back behind bars, this time for allegedly breaking federal immigration laws. Hector Gamboa-Mantalvo, a 30-year-old Mexican national, was removed from the US in 2020, but was discovered in Palatine in 2023, after he allegedly tried to hijack a vehicle.
Gamboa-Mantalvo was arrested and served time for the attempted hijacking, but while in jail, he was caught with a dangerous weapon, earning him another conviction. Now, he’s facing federal charges for allegedly re-entering the country after being deported.
According to court documents, Gamboa-Mantalvo pleaded not guilty to the charge, and a status hearing has been set for May 27. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
The case is part of the Homeland Security Task Force initiative, aimed at protecting the American people from immigration-related crimes.
