Michael J. Miske, Jr., 50, of Kailua, Oahu, has been found guilty of racketeering conspiracy, murder, and 11 related charges. A federal jury delivered the verdict on July 18, 2024, after a 99-day trial. Miske’s sentencing is scheduled for November 26, 2024.
The racketeering conspiracy, which spanned from the late 1990s to June 2020, involved the ‘Miske Enterprise.’ Miske and his co-defendants allegedly conducted a pattern of racketeering activity, including murder, kidnapping, and robbery. They also conspired to commit murder-for-hire, used chemical weapons, and engaged in other crimes.
The trial revealed that Miske conspired with others to kidnap and murder 21-year-old Johnathan Fraser in March 2016. Miske instructed a co-conspirator to develop a plan for Fraser’s kidnapping and murder. On July 30, 2016, Fraser was kidnapped and killed.
Miske was also convicted of obstructing justice for submitting false character letters to the court during his pretrial release. The maximum penalties for the charges include life in prison for racketeering conspiracy, murder in aid of racketeering, kidnapping resulting in death, and the use of chemical weapons.
The jury determined that Miske must forfeit various assets, including two pieces of real property, $611,123.60 in proceeds from the sale of real property, a Boston Whaler vessel, a fishing vessel, a 2017 Ferrari, and $2,521.784.32 in cash from various financial institution accounts.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Criminal Investigation Division of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection conducted the investigation that led to Miske’s conviction.
Miske’s conviction is a significant blow to organized crime in Hawaii. The ‘Miske Enterprise’ was a complex and violent operation that terrorized the community for decades.
