Michael Rees, Methamphetamine Charge, Iowa 2021

A Quincy man has been sentenced to 151 months in prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine conspiracy operating out of Burlington, Iowa.

Michael Rees, 40, of Quincy, Illinois, was sentenced on August 25, 2021, by United States District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey.

Rees was found to have possessed a firearm related to his drug trafficking activities and was under criminal justice supervision at the time of the offense.

This case is part of an ongoing investigation into a multi-year joint federal and state effort which culminated in the execution of search warrants in various locations, including Burlington, on November 19, 2019.

Rees was one of eight defendants who faced federal charges in the Southern District of Iowa after the investigation.

Acting United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal made the announcement, citing the cooperation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; West Central Illinois Taskforce; Quincy, Illinois Police Department; Southeast Iowa Narcotics Taskforce; Burlington Police Department; and the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office.

The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
