Kerontrez Lamar Kenon, Inmate Sexual Relationship, Florida 2023

Tallahassee, FL – The federal justice system dealt a stern hand to Kerontrez Lamar Kenon, 23, of Midway, Florida, who was sentenced to one year in prison for engaging in a sexual relationship with an inmate while serving as a correctional officer at Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Tallahassee.

Court records reveal that Kenon’s inappropriate conduct occurred during his tenure at the institution in June and July 2023. The defendant, then employed under custodial authority, not only engaged in sexual intercourse with a female inmate but also violated regulations by providing her with cigarettes and food. He further assisted the inmate in setting up a CashApp to accept payments for cigarettes from fellow inmates.

Kenon’s misdeeds came to light when the victim reported the incident; at that time, he had already left his position at FCI Tallahassee. His sentence, which will be followed by five years’ supervised release, was announced by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.

U.S. Attorney Heekin emphasized the severity of Kenon’s crime, stating, “A correctional officer’s abuse of his position is intolerable. My office will work with our federal partners to vigorously investigate and prosecute any officer who violates their oath through the abuse of inmates.”

Eric Fehlman, Special Agent in Charge of the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General Southeast Region, echoed these sentiments, underscoring the commitment to justice for victims of exploitation.

Jason Carley, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Jacksonville Division, vowed that the FBI would stop at nothing to seek justice for all crime victims, including inmates who suffer abuse within corrections facilities. The investigation and prosecution were the result of a joint effort by the Department of Justice Office of Inspector General and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
