Crime Strikes South Dakota: Methamphetamine Charges Hit Mission Woman
A 42-year-old Mission woman, Meloni Ann Old Lodge, has been indicted on federal charges related to methamphetamine distribution and conspiracy. The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury on October 17, 2017, accuses Old Lodge of knowingly and intentionally conspiring to distribute the highly addictive substance in South Dakota between September 1, 2015, and October 17, 2017.
The indictment also alleges that Old Lodge distributed methamphetamine in Mission on February 19, 2017. If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in custody and/or a $1,000,000 fine, a lifetime of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Additionally, restitution may be ordered.
According to the indictment, the conspiracy charges stem from Old Lodge’s alleged distribution of methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance, in the state. The charges are merely accusations, and Old Lodge is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The investigation into Old Lodge’s activities is being led by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney SaraBeth Donovan is prosecuting the case.
Old Lodge was released on bond pending trial, with a trial date yet to be set. As the case unfolds, the community remains vigilant, aware of the devastating impact of methamphetamine on families and communities.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Seiler emphasized the importance of addressing the ongoing threat of methamphetamine distribution in the region. His office remains committed to combating this issue and bringing those responsible to justice.
