Randy Fisher Crandle, Illegal Firearm, Alabama 2023

MOBILE, AL – A Mobile man has been handed a seven-year prison sentence for illegally possessing a firearm, marking another stark reminder of the ongoing battle against gun violence. Randy Fisher Crandle, 26, was arrested on November 22, 2022, during a routine traffic stop where police discovered the firearm in his possession.

Crandle, who has a string of prior felony convictions including robbery, arson, and assault, faces the severe consequences of his latest offense. As a convicted felon, Crandle is explicitly prohibited from owning or carrying firearms, but he reportedly flouted this law with devastating results.

The United States District Court Judge Kristi K. DuBose sentenced Crandle to 77 months in federal prison, followed by a mandatory three-year term of supervised release. U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama announced the sentence, emphasizing the severity of the crime and the commitment to public safety.

The investigation into Crandle’s illegal firearm possession was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in collaboration with the Mobile Police Department. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a collaborative effort aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence across the nation.

Launched on May 26, 2021, PSN has focused on fostering trust within communities, supporting organizations that prevent violence before it occurs, strategically enforcing laws, and measuring results to ensure effectiveness. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jessica S. Terrill and Justin D. Kopf prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.

This sentence serves as a stern warning to others who may consider similar actions, demonstrating the dedication of law enforcement agencies in Alabama to make neighborhoods safer for all residents.
