Gary Man Sentenced to 51 Months for Gun Possession
Modesto Ricard IV, 32 years old, was sentenced to 51 months in prison after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson. This crime was committed in Hammond, Indiana.
Ricard was arrested on August 9, 2021, on an outstanding arrest warrant and a .380 caliber firearm was recovered from his pants pocket. His criminal history revealed he has a prior felony conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm, and as such, is prohibited from possessing firearms.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Indiana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Task Force, and the East Chicago Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Caitlin M. Padula prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
Gary’s streets are a little bit safer thanks to this conviction. We will continue to work tirelessly to keep our community safe from gun violence.
