Providence Man Convicted of Fentanyl Trafficking in RI

A Providence man is facing serious consequences after pleading guilty to a fentanyl trafficking charge in federal court.

Montrell Dennis, 34, was the target of an FBI Safe Streets Task Force investigation into drug trafficking. According to charging documents, a court-authorized search of his Providence residence on May 3, 2024, resulted in the discovery of several plastic baggies containing fentanyl and other drugs.

Toxicology reports of the seized narcotics indicate there were 29.4 grams of a mixture containing Fentanyl, Heroin, Cocaine, and Xylazine and 1.37 grams of crack cocaine. Multiple digital scales, multiple smartphones, and two firearms were also seized.

Dennis has been detained since his arrest on May 3, 2025. He is scheduled to be sentenced on April 22, 2025. The defendant’s sentence will be determined by a federal district judge after consideration of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Peter I. Roklan and Taylor A. Dean. The matter was investigated by the FBI Rhode Island Safe Streets Gang Task Force.
