Mooresburg Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Meth Conspiracy

A 46-year-old man from Mooresburg, Tennessee has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy in the Eastern District of Tennessee.

Steven Dwight Hopkins, also known as "Rabbit", was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge R. Leon Jordan to serve 240 months in federal prison for his involvement in the conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

According to his plea agreement, Hopkins admitted to being responsible for at least 1.5 kilograms but less than 4.5 kilograms of actual meth. He also admitted to cooking meth since 2000 and obtaining eight to 10 ounces of meth per week from co-defendant Rick Munsey, 48, of Del Rio, Tennessee.

Hopkins was a member of the Chicken Head Mafia, a notorious motorcycle club, and was involved in the meth trafficking conspiracy with other members of the group. Law enforcement agencies participating in the investigation included the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office, Morristown Police Department, and Third and Fourth District Judicial Drug Task Forces.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Wayne Taylor represented the United States in the case, which was a result of the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program. The OCDETF program was established in 1982 to conduct comprehensive, multi-level attacks on major drug trafficking and money laundering organizations.

The sentencing of Hopkins is a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in the Eastern District of Tennessee. Law enforcement agencies will continue to work together to disrupt and dismantle the most serious drug trafficking organizations in the region.

Hopkins’ sentence serves as a reminder of the severity of the consequences for those involved in methamphetamine trafficking. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
